Don't Wait to Install Fresh Wiper Blades

There are certain parts of our vehicles that we never overlook or forget about, like the engine, wheels and tires, brakes, and AC system (especially in the summer). Other parts, however, are easy to overlook and forget about when you are not using them, like the turn signals, rear cargo space lighting, and wiper blades on your vehicle. Yet, these can be some of the most important parts to keep in mind and maintain properly, specifically because you can go for long stretches of time without using them. The last thing you want is to drive into an unexpected downpour and discover your windshield wipers are in need of replacement. That is why we are here to make sure every part of your vehicle is in great shape and to handle things like putting new wiper blades on your car when you need them.

Did You Know There Are Different Types of Wiper Blades?

The wiper blades on our vehicles are pretty easy to overlook, partly because we do not have to use them every day and partly because they are such a simple vehicle component. You can find all sorts of flashy exterior accessories, from fancy wheels to roof racks that offer impressive functionality to lighting enhancements that make a bold statement. That said, you won’t really find flashy windshield wiper blades out there; they are designed to do a job, and the best thing they can do is perform that function properly. Having said that, we should note that there are different types of wiper blades, so it is important you have the right ones on your vehicle.

The right choice of wiper blade comes down to numerous factors, but the main types of wiper blades you should know about include:

Conventional Wiper Blades: Conventional wiper blades are just what they sound like—the old standard type with a basic metal frame that can pivot, attached to a blade that wipes off your car window to keep it clear of water and dust. These are cheap and work just fine, but they are not exceptional.

Beam Wiper Blades: Improving upon conventional wiper blades, beam wiper blades have a frameless design and feature a curved piece of metal covered with rubber to provide even contact with your entire windshield. These are generally the most expensive option, but they work the best and tend to last longer than conventional blades.

Hybrid Wiper Blades: As you might expect, there is a middle way between the two options we have looked at so far. Hybrid wiper blades have a metal frame like conventional wipers but feature a large, curved blade that is more like a beam wiper. This provides many of the advantages of a beam wiper, though it might not last quite as long, with a price closer to that of conventional blades.

Which of these wiper types is right for you and your vehicle? Beam wiper blades are best in climates that get a lot of snow and ice, so they might be overkill for drivers here in Texas. We suggest hybrid blades for most of our customers since they provide the perfect combination of reasonable price, effective design, and long-lasting performance. However, even the best wiper blades will still break down and need to be replaced over time, so it is important to have them routinely inspected and replaced when necessary to ensure your windshield stays clear. Don’t forget about the rear window wiper if your vehicle has one since it also needs to be replaced.
